🧭 Before you start
Fits: VW Phaeton (3D)
Don't miss
- Clutch "“E”" can be identified by the visible dished spring and split retaining ring.
- Make sure that cylinder "“C”" engages in all clutch plates one after the other by using short lifting and turning movements "“D”".
- If dimension (a) is not attained, assembly of body "“I”" must be checked .
📋 Procedure
- Stick needle thrust bearing (2) to clutch "“E”" in cylinder "“D/E”"(item 1) with petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline). Use petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline) only. Other types of lubricant will cause the gearbox hydraulics to malfunction. [Note: Clutch "“E”" can be identified by the visible dished spring and split retaining ring.]
- Turn cylinder "“D/E”"(item 2) upside down.
- Set cylinder "“D/E”" on planetary drive (1) with lifting and twisting movements.
- Check that plates have meshed by lifting and dropping cylinder "“D/E”" a few millimetres.
- Lightly coat needle thrust bearing (2) on flat side with petroleum jelly (Vaseline). Use petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline) only. Other types of lubricant will cause the gearbox hydraulics to malfunction.
- Stick needle thrust bearing to back of clutch "“C”"(item 1).
- Insert clutch "“C”" with sun shaft (item 2) in cylinder "“D/E”", (item 1).
- Make sure that cylinder "“C”" engages in all clutch plates one after the other by using short lifting and turning movements "“D”".
- Check that plates have meshed by lifting and dropping cylinder "“D/E”" a few millimetres.
- Measure check dimension for "“body I”". [Note: If dimension (a) is not attained, assembly of body "“I”" must be checked .]
- Check whether parallel keys (arrow) are centred on both sides of cylinder (D … E).
- Turn threaded spindle (1) for lifting device T10272 for body "“I”" into threaded hole of body "“I”" to stop.
- Secure individual parts of "“body I”" against separation by turning sleeve (2) on threaded spindle all the way down by hand.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
