Removing and installing cup holder/storage compartment: Audi A3
Step-by-step removing and installing cup holder/storage compartment for the Audi A3: 8 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
The cup holder and storage compartment in the dash of the A3 (8P, 2003–2012) is a clip-in unit, and removal starts with switching off all electrical equipment and taking out the ignition key, because some versions carry a light. The trim for the switch module comes off first. Then the cup holder is opened, its retaining tabs pressed down with a small flat screwdriver, and the unit drawn out of the dash panel as far as it will go. On lit versions the electrical connector is unplugged before the unit comes free. Refitting is simply pushing it in until it engages audibly. Go gently on the retaining tabs; they are small and break easily if forced from the wrong angle.
🧭 Before you start
Switch off electrical consumers and remove the key, then take off the switch module trim. Open the cup holder, press the retaining tabs down with a small screwdriver and pull the unit out of the dash. Unplug the light connector if fitted and remove the unit. Push the unit back in until it engages audibly and refit the trim.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
