Removing and installing rear lid trim: VW Passat CC / CC

Step-by-step removing and installing rear lid trim for the VW Passat CC / CC: 15 steps, 13 torque figures.

The bonded trim on the rear lid of the cars covered by the platform codes listed below is not clipped on: it is held by an adhesive bead, double-sided tapes and centring pins, so removal means cutting it free. A cutting cord is threaded between lid and trim and worked with a sawing motion through bead, tapes and pins; cutting wire is ruled out because it marks paint. Refitting is a bonding job. The old bead is trimmed back to about 1 mm as a base, tape residue comes off, the surfaces are cleaned and primed, and a fresh 4 mm bead goes on before the trim is pressed into place. Clean, dust-free surfaces and bonding straight after cleaning are what make it stay put.

🧭 Before you start

Mask the surrounding paint, thread the cutting cord behind the trim and saw through the adhesive bead, tapes and centring pins. Strip the tape residue, cut the old bead back to about 1 mm and clean the bonding faces immediately before fitting. Prime the marked surfaces, lay a 4 mm bead of one-component MS adhesive, peel the tape film, locate the pins, press the trim on firmly and hold it with adhesive strips while it cures. Screws in the handle and warning-triangle recesses take 1.5 Nm.

Fits: VW Passat CC (357, 2008–2012), VW CC (358, 2012–2017)

Don't miss

  • Do not use cutting wire on this trim; it damages the painted surfaces.
  • Leave about 1 mm of old bead; it is the base for the new adhesive.
  • Bond immediately after cleaning and remove the protective foil only just before fitting.
  • Working temperature should be about 21 ℃ for the adhesive to behave as intended.
  • Hold the trim with adhesive strips after pressing it on evenly over the tapes.

📋 Procedure

  1. ⚠ Clean all surrounding parts before beginning work and mask them with tape. When removing trim, do not use cutting wire due to the risk of damage to painted surfaces. When removing trim, use suitable gloves and protective eyewear. — Thread cutting cord(6) between rear lid (2) and trim (1).
  2. Cut through adhesive bead (3) and adhesive tapes (4) with "“sawing”" motions of both pull handlesV.A.G 1351/1(7).
  3. The centring pins (5) must also be cut. [Note: Ensure that the adhesive surfaces are free of dust and grease. The trim must be bonded in place immediately following cleaning.Remove protective foil immediately before installation. Working temperature approx. 21 ℃.]
  4. Immediately before bonding add-on parts, clean bonding surface on new rear lid thoroughly with adhesive remover.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
