📋 Procedure

If the pads are to be used again they must be marked on removal and installed in the same position otherwise the brakes will pull unevenly.

Knock retaining pins out. On calipers with 14 mm thick pads, remove retaining clip beforehand.
Pulling inner pad out.

Pulling out the outer brake pad. The outer brake pad is located by a projection on the floating frame. To remove it, the floating frame must be pressed out-wards.

Press piston into the cylinder using the special tool.

Caution:
Before pressing piston back, siphon some fluid out of the reservoir as otherwise, if additonal fluid has been added in the meantime, it may overflow and cause damage.
Use a bleeder bottle or a soft plastic bottle to siphon the fluid and keep the container for this job only. Brake fluid is poisonous and must on no account be sucked out with a hose.
Checking the 20°piston position. Hold the piston gauge onto the upper guide surface on brake caliper.

If necessary, adjust with piston rotating pliers.

Install brake pads, new spreader spring and new locating pins.

Note:

The pad sets for calipers with 10 mm thick pads contain spreader springs and retaining pins. Knock pins in using hammer and drift 2074.

Secure retaining pins with new spring clips.

Note:

The pad sets for calipers with 14 mm thick pads do not contain spreader springs, retaining pins and clips. Check these parts for wear and renew if necessary.

Important

With vehicle standing still, fully depress the brake pedal a number of times, so that the brake pads move into appropriate operating positions.

Stopping brake squeaking

Clean pads throughly and coat areas shown shaded or arrowed with Plastilube.

Pad contact surfaces, piston end face, areas where frame contacts pad.

Frame moving parts, holes for retaining pins.

Clean sides of pads with emery cloth.

Pins complete, spreader springs where they touch pins and backs of pads, backing plates, sides of pads and holes in pads.

Note:

Take care to keep Plastilube off the disc friction surface and pads. Wipe off all traces if paste should get on to these surfaces.

Install pads. With vehicle standing still, fully depress the brake pedal a number of times so that the pistons and brake pads move into appropriate operating positions.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
