Removing and installing coolant pipe from heater coolant shut-off valve N279 — VW
Removing and installing coolant pipe from heater coolant shut-off valve N279 on VW: 12 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Here the coolant pipe running from heater coolant shut-off valve N279 is removed and refitted on the platform code listed below (7N2). Access is from underneath and above: the front noise insulation and engine cover panel come off, and on some engine versions extra parts have to be moved to reach the pipe. Instead of draining the system, the coolant hoses are pinched off with hose clamps 3094 rated to 25 mm. Any heat insulation grommet is removed, the hose clips are loosened and the hoses pulled off the valve, then the pipe's retaining clips and hoses are released and the two nuts holding the pipe are removed. Clamping the right hoses firmly and seating every hose and clip fully on reassembly are what keep this from turning into a coolant spill and a leak.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the front noise insulation and engine cover panel, plus anything else your engine version needs moved. Clamp off the coolant hoses, remove any heat insulation grommet, and pull the hoses off valve N279. Release the retaining clips, take the hoses off the pipe, unscrew nuts (2) and (3) and remove the pipe. Install in reverse order.
Fits: VW Sharan II / SEAT Alhambra (7N, 2010–)
Don't miss
- Pinch the hoses with clamps 3094 rather than draining the whole system.
- Some engine versions need extra components removed to reach the pipe.
- Refit the heat insulation grommet if one was fitted.
- General practice: top up and bleed the cooling system afterwards and check the joints for leaks when hot.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
