CAUTION
When the engine is warm, the cooling system is under pressure. Danger of scalding due to steam and hot coolant.
There is a risk of injury to the skin and parts of the body due to scalding.
Always wear safety gloves.
Always wear safety goggles.
Proceed as follows to release the pressure: cover the cap of the coolant expansion tank with a cloth, and open it carefully.

Coolant hoses that are mixed up with each other can lead to failure of the heating for the passenger compartment due to coolant flowing in the wrong direction.
Squashed coolant hoses can lead to failure of the heating for the passenger compartment due to the coolant flow being slowed down.

Function
The
coolant shut-off valve
N82
is controlled by means of the air conditioning controls only if certain settings for the air conditioning system have been made (e.g. in the case of
“OFF”
mode or if maximum cooling is required). In this case, the engine speed must be less than 5000 rpm and the coolant temperature lower than 95 °C.
If the coolant circuit for the heat exchanger of the air conditioning system is closed off, heating of the engine when the coolant is cold is accelerated.
The
coolant shut-off valve
N82
is open unless actuated so that the electrical functioning of the valve can be subjected to a test, which is carried out at certain intervals (e.g. the valve is briefly actuated for approx. 1 second every twentieth time the engine is started).

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
