Removing and installing B-pillar trim on rear door: VW Golf VII
Step-by-step removing and installing B-pillar trim on rear door for the VW Golf VII: 10 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Replacing the B-pillar trim on a rear door of the Golf VII (5G, 2012–2020) and the BE1 platform code listed below is a short job done right and a scratched trim done wrong. The window has to be fully down first, then the window channel is pulled out of the door frame in the trim area so the spreader rivets can be unclipped and the trim slid down, off the frame, and out upwards. Fitting it back hinges on the longitudinal holes in the frame section: the trim has to sit in them and be pushed to its stop before it is slid up against the window channel and the rivets hooked in from the top. Nothing is bolted; it is all location and clips, and a trim forced past its stop never sits flush again.
🧭 Before you start
Drop the window, free the window channel where it runs over the trim, unclip the spreader rivets and slide the trim down off the door frame before drawing it out upwards. To install, the trim goes onto the frame, is located in the longitudinal holes of the frame section and pushed to its stop, then slid up until it meets the window channel. The spreader rivets are hooked in from top to bottom and the window channel is pressed back into the trim.
Fits: VW Golf VII (5G, 2012–2020); platform code BE1
Don't miss
- Run the window fully down before starting; the channel will not come out otherwise.
- Pull the window channel out of the frame only in the trim area, not along the whole door.
- Locate the trim in the longitudinal holes and push to the stop before sliding it up.
- Hook the spreader rivets in from top to bottom, then seat the window channel into the trim.
- Run the window up and down afterwards to check it travels freely in the channel.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
