📋 Procedure

Checking voltage supply and current consumption of
fuel system pressurisation pump
G6
engine codes BJB, BLS, BSU, BDJ, BST, BMM
Special tools and workshop equipment required
Multimeter
V.A.G 1715
or
hand multimeter
V.A.G 1526C
Voltage tester
V.A.G 1527B
Auxiliary measuring set
V.A.G 1594C
Measuring container
Test prerequisites
Fuses must be OK.
The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V.
All electrical consumers, e.g. lights and rear window heating, must be switched off.
Fuel tank is filled sufficiently.
Checking function and voltage supply
WARNING
The fuel and the fuel lines in the fuel system can become very hot (danger of scalding)!
The fuel system is also under pressure! Before opening the system, place cloths around the connection. Then carefully loosen connection to release the pressure!
Wear eye and hand protection when performing all assembly work on the fuel system!
Pull supply hose
1
off fuel line
2
.
Hold supply hose
1
in a measuring container
3
.
Start engine for 2 seconds.
Switch off ignition.
Only if no fuel is delivered:
Check fuel lines for kinks.
Check fuel filter for blockage.
If no faults were found in fuel system, continue with check as follows:
Lower fuel tank just enough to enable connector on flange to be pulled off:
Vehicles with front-wheel drive
Chapter
, removing and installing fuel tank
Vehicles with four-wheel drive
Chapter
, removing and installing fuel tank
Connect
voltage tester
V.A.G 1527B
to outer contacts of connector using auxiliary cables from
auxiliary measuring set
V.A.G 1594C
.
Switch ignition on. The LED must now light up for approx. 2 seconds.
If LED does not light up
Check activation of fuel pump relay and wiring for open circuit and short circuit
Vehicle diagnostic tester
.
If LED lights up (voltage supply OK):
Remove fuel delivery unit
Chapter
.
Front-wheel drive vehicles
Chapter
.
Vehicles with four-wheel drive
Chapter
.
Check that the electrical lines between flange and fuel pump are connected and have continuity.
If no open circuit can be found:
Renew fuel delivery unit
Chapter
.
Front-wheel drive vehicles
Chapter
.
Vehicles with four-wheel drive
Chapter
.
Checking current consumption of fuel pump
Pull connector off fuel delivery unit flange.
Set multimeter to measuring range 20 A. Connect in series between contacts
1
of connector and fuel pump using auxiliary cables from
auxiliary measuring set
V.A.G 1594C
.
Note
The current pick-up clamp of
multimeter
V.A.G 1715
can also be attached to an auxiliary cable between contacts
1
of connector and fuel pump.
Connect contacts
5
of connector and fuel pump using auxiliary cable from
auxiliary measuring set
V.A.G 1594C
.
Start engine and run at idling speed.
Measure current draw of fuel pump. Specification: 3.5…4.5 amps.
If the measured value is not within specifications:
Renew fuel delivery unit
Chapter
.
Front-wheel drive vehicles
Chapter
.
Vehicles with four-wheel drive
Chapter

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
