Checking vacuum unit for turbocharger: VW Jetta VI (AXX, BLG, BMY, BPY, …)
Step-by-step checking vacuum unit for turbocharger for the VW Jetta VI: 9 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
This check tests the vacuum unit that moves the turbocharger's control linkage on the VW petrol and diesel engines listed below, across the platform codes listed below. It is a hand-pump test rather than a removal: the air filter housing and the turbo heat shield come off, the hose is detached from the vacuum unit and the hand vacuum pump VAS 6213 is connected in its place. Vacuum is drawn to 800 mbar while you watch the operating rod, then the pump is vented and the rod's return is watched over the whole range. The rod should move continuously and smoothly with no sticking. The one hard limit is the vacuum level, since exceeding 800 mbar can damage the unit you are trying to judge.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the air filter housing and the turbocharger heat shield, detach the vacuum hose and connect the hand vacuum pump to the vacuum unit. Pump to 800 mbar while watching the operating rod, then vent the pump and check that the rod moves smoothly through its full travel. Reconnect the hose and refit the heat shield and air filter housing.
Fits: VW Jetta VI (16, 2010–2018); platform codes AV2, AV3
Don't miss
- Never exceed 800 mbar on the gauge; excess vacuum can damage the unit.
- Watch the operating rod over its full range in both directions; it must not stick or jump.
- Push the sliding ring on VAS 6213 to its stop before pumping.
- Reconnect the original vacuum hose securely before refitting the heat shield.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
