Checking oil pressure and oil pressure switch (engine code CNNA, BWS from 01.2011) on VW: 14 steps, engines BWS, CNNA.

Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

🧭 Before you start

Fits: VW Passat CC (357, 2008–2012); platform code 1F7

  • Renewed: oil pump

Don't miss

  • Observe installation position of adapter: the conical union of adapter must be screwed into pressure hose of tester.
  • Connect voltage testerV.A.G 1527B with cables from auxiliary measuring setV.A.G 1594C to battery positive (+) (connection in engine compartment (arrow)) and oil pressure switch. LED must not light up.
  • Observe tester and LED while starting, as switching point of oil pressure switch may already be exceeded when starting.
  • Start engine and run at idling speed. At 0.7…1.1 bar the LED must light up; otherwise renew oil pressure switch F1.

📋 Procedure

  1. Remove noise insulation General body repairs, exterior50Noise insulation.
  2. Remove oil pressure switch F1 and screw into tester.
  3. Screw tester into oil filter bracket in place of oil pressure switch. [Note: Observe installation position of adapter: the conical union of adapter must be screwed into pressure hose of tester.]
  4. Connect brown wire of tester to earth (-).
  5. Connect voltage testerV.A.G 1527B with cables from auxiliary measuring setV.A.G 1594C to battery positive (+) (connection in engine compartment (arrow)) and oil pressure switch. LED must not light up.

  1. Renew oil pressure switch F1. [Note: Observe tester and LED while starting, as switching point of oil pressure switch may already be exceeded when starting.]
  2. Start engine and run at idling speed. At 0.7…1.1 bar the LED must light up; otherwise renew oil pressure switch F1.
  3. Check oil pressure at different revolutions:
  4. Check strainer in oil suction pipe for dirt.
  5. Check oil pressure safety valve control piston in oil pump for dirt.
  6. Check oil pipe at bottom of cylinder block for leaks. [Note: Mechanical damage, e.g. to bearings, could also be the cause for oil pressure being too low.The oil pressure safety valve control piston is spring-loaded. Great care is therefore required when screwing the plug in/out.The plug is tightened to 35 Nm in oil pump.]
  7. Renew oil pump .
  8. Check oil channels.
  9. If necessary, renew oil pump .

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
