Timing chain replacement: Opel Agila B 1.0 (K10B)

Step-by-step timing chain replacement for the Opel Agila B 1.0 (K10B): 147 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Timing chain replacement on the Agila B 1.0 12V with the K10B three-cylinder. The chain sits behind a cover that is sealed to the block and sump, so the oil is drained, the front and middle exhaust sections come off, the oil strainer is removed and the gearbox is supported on a transmission jack while the engine mounting bracket is unbolted. The ancillary belt, coolant pump pulley and crankshaft pulley come off with the special holding tools, followed by the timing chain cover, chain guide rail and tensioner. The new chain goes on together with the crankshaft gearwheel, with its marks aligned to the gearwheel marks. A new chain tensioner is fitted, the chain oiled, and the crankshaft turned clockwise by 2 turns to confirm the timing before the cover is sealed.

🧭 Before you start

Drain the oil, remove the exhaust sections, oil strainer, ancillary belt, pulleys and engine mounting bracket with the gearbox supported. Remove the timing chain cover, guide rail and tensioner, then fit the new chain with the crankshaft gearwheel and align its marks. Fit a new tensioner, oil the chain, turn the engine 2 turns to check the marks, then seal and refit the cover and rebuild.

Fits: platform codes 1.0, 12V

  • Opens: engine oil
  • Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job

Don't miss

  • Align the marks on the timing chain with the marks on the gearwheels.
  • Renew the chain tensioner rather than reusing the old one.
  • Apply clean engine oil to the chain, then rotate the crankshaft clockwise by 2 turns and check the marks.
  • Apply sealant to the timing chain cover before fitting.
  • Renew the exhaust gaskets when the front and middle sections go back.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
