📋 Procedure

All vehicles with:

Automatic gearbox
6-cylinder engine
66 kW turbo diesel engine with manual gearbox

Note:

Outer constant velocity joints are packed with grease G-6:

Grease · of which in:
Outer joint · Total quantity · Joint · Bellows
ø mm · [g] · [g] · [g]
88 · 90 · 40 · 50
98 · 120 · 80 · 40

Top up fill joint, if necessary, when replacing CV joint boot.

Grease fill for inner tripod joint:

Tripod joint is lubricated with 140 g of grease G 000 605.
Regrease joint, if necessary, when replacing the protective bellows.

Inner joint protective bellows
Check for cracks and abrasions
To replace, press off outer constant velocity joint
When slipping onto profile shaft, apply a small amount of grease to bead on profiled shaft and use wedge -V.A.G 1474/5- (part of tool -V.A.G 1474-) to carefully position bellows => Fig.

Fit into circular groove of shaft on assembly (no longer visible once joint is installed)

Outer constant velocity joint
Only replace as complete unit
Pay attention to different joint dimensions:
OD for 55 kW diesel engine and 66 kW turbo diesel engine as well as petrol engine up to 101 kW: 88 mm
110 and 128 kW petrol engine: 98 mm
Pressing off =>Fig.

Pressing off outer constant velocity joint

Clamp drive shaft in vice using soft jaws.
Remove clip.
Push back boot.
Depending on thread of track control arm joint screw in special tool -3207- with M14 or M16 threaded end until constant velocity joint is pressed off profiled shaft.

Fig.3
Ventilating joint protective bellows

The bellows are often squashed when installing them on the housing. This produces a vacuum in the bellows which causes an inward fold -arrow- when driving. Therefore, briefly vent the bellows at the small diameter end after fitting to equalise pressure.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
