Removing and installing right D-pillar trim — AUDI

Removing and installing right D-pillar trim on Audi: 9 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

The right-hand D-pillar trim on the vehicles with the platform codes listed below (S1 and 2H) is held by bolts rather than clips, and one goes into a wooden rail with a spacer under it. Removal is short: the rear right door seal is detached, the bolts and their spacers come out, and the trim is lifted away with its cut-out guided over the striker. Fitting is where the order matters. The trim is guided back over the striker, aligned, and the upper bolt goes into the side trim panel first; then the spacer is positioned and its bolt run into the wooden rail, followed by the middle and lower bolts to the side trim panel and the bolt at the bottom of the trim. The seal goes back on last.

9 steps

🧭 Before you start

Detach the rear right seal, remove the bolts together with their spacers and lift the D-pillar trim off, guiding the cut-out over the striker. For installation the trim goes back over the striker, is aligned and bolted in sequence: upper bolt to the side trim panel, the spacer and its bolt into the wooden rail, then the middle and lower bolts to the side trim panel and the bolt on the lower part of the trim. Refit the seal to finish.

Fits: platform codes S1, 2H

Don't miss

  • Keep the spacers with their bolts; the bolt into the wooden rail must have its spacer under it.
  • Guide the cut-out over the striker when removing and fitting, or the trim will be scratched.
  • Align the trim and fit the upper bolt to the side trim panel before any other bolt.
  • The door seal comes off first and goes on last.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
