Removing and installing activated charcoal filter - all vehicles except Audi A6 hybrid — AUDI

Removing and installing activated charcoal filter - all vehicles except Audi A6 hybrid on Audi: 8 steps, engines CAEB, CAED, CDNB, CDZA.

The activated charcoal filter collects fuel vapour from the tank and sits under the car at the rear left, behind underbody trim, on the 4G and 4X platforms covered here (for the 4G that is the A6/A7 C7 2011–2018; the A6 hybrid is excluded). It applies across a long list of petrol engines. Access is from below once the underbody trim is off. Three lines go to it: the vent line, the breather line from the fuel tank and the breather line to the activated charcoal filter solenoid valve N80. Each is a plug-in connector, and the filter itself is held by three bolts. The work is simple; what matters is keeping dirt out of the open lines and making sure each connector engages audibly on refitting.

🧭 Before you start

Observe the fuel system safety and cleanliness rules, then remove the rear left underbody trim. Detach the vent line, the tank breather line and the line to solenoid valve N80, unbolt the filter and remove it. Fit the new filter, reconnect all three lines until they click and refit the underbody trim.

Fits: Audi A6/A7 C7 (4G, 2011–2018); platform code 4X

Don't miss

  • Cap or cover the open vent and breather lines; keep dirt out of the evaporative system.
  • Each line connector must engage audibly when reconnected.
  • Note which line goes to the tank and which to solenoid valve N80 before disconnecting.
  • Do not confuse this procedure with the A6 hybrid, which is excluded.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
