📋 Procedure

  1. ⚠ Irreparable damage to high-pressure components, especially the high-pressure pump due to lack of lubrication though incorrect fuel may occur when filling fuel tank with incorrect fuel. Damage due to seizure and metal particles can be expected. These metal particles will probably cause further damage to pressure regulating valves and injectors. — Do not switch ignition on.
  2. Empty fuel tank as far as possible via fuel filler neck using fuel extractorVAS 5190.
  3. Remove fuel tank .
  4. Remove fuel delivery unit and drain .
  5. Drain fuel tank completely. [Note: The lint-free cloth can be ordered from the ServiceNet; Workshop Equipment; Techno equipment catalogue; BMK consumables.Always work carefully and ensure cleanliness when working on the fuel system. The fuel system reacts sensitively to the ingress of dirt.]

  1. Clean inside of fuel tank with lint-free cloth.
  2. Fill fuel tank with 5 litres of diesel fuel.
  3. Install fuel delivery unit .
  4. Install fuel tank . [Note: In models where the fuel pump is activated when the door is opened, the fuel filter must be renewed.]
  5. Fill fuel tank with 5 litres of diesel fuel. Then, perform the function "“Bleeding fuel system”" in "“guided functions”".
  6. Fill fuel tank completely with diesel fuel.
  7. Perform road test.
  8. Empty fuel tank as far as possible via fuel filler neck using fuel extractorVAS 5190.
  9. Remove fuel tank .
  10. Remove fuel delivery unit and drain .

  12. Check fuel tank for dirt and filings.
  13. If necessary, clean fuel tank.
  14. Fill fuel tank with 5 litres of diesel fuel.
  15. Completely empty fuel tank again as described above.
  16. Replace high-pressure pump 23High-pressure pump: Removing and installing high-pressure pump.
  17. ⚠ It is only permissible to do the following work when the defective high-pressure pump has been removed. — Unscrew bolts (arrows) and remove metering unit (1) from the OLD high-pressure pump.
  18. Check metering unit and high-pressure pump for metal particles.
  19. Fill up vehicle.
  20. Bleeding fuel system 23Injection system; Filling/bleeding fuel system.
  21. Perform road test.
  22. Replace fuel filter .

  25. Clean fuel delivery unit and fuel tank with diesel extractorVAS 5226.
  26. Install fuel delivery unit.
  27. Fill fuel tank with 5 litres of diesel fuel.
  28. Completely empty fuel tank again as described above.
  29. Renew following high-pressure components:
  30. Fill up vehicle.
  31. Bleeding fuel system 23Injection system; Filling/bleeding fuel system.
  32. Perform road test. [Note: In models where the fuel pump is activated when the door is opened, the fuel filter must be renewed.]
  33. Fill fuel tank with 5 litres of diesel fuel. Then, perform the function "“Bleeding fuel system”" in "“guided functions”".
  34. Fill fuel tank completely with diesel fuel.
  35. Perform road test.
