Repairing air conditioning system magnetic clutch, Sanden
Removing and installing air conditioning system magnetic clutch
Special tools and workshop equipment required
Torque wrench
V.A.G 1331/
(5…50 Nm)
Pin wrench
VAS 3212
Not illustrated:
Two-arm puller
Three-arm puller
Depth gauge
Note
It is not necessary to open the refrigerant circuit to remove and refit the
air conditioning system magnetic clutch
N25
.
To remove poly V-belt
Rep. gr.

.
The clearance must be redetermined after the
air conditioning system magnetic clutch
N25
has been installed.
Removing
Remove hexagon nut.
To counterhold, use
pin wrench
VAS 3212
with a pin diameter of 4 mm.
Caution
There are two versions of hexagon nuts.
The
air conditioning system magnetic clutch
N25
can come loose or the thread of the air conditioner compressor can be damaged.
Observe torque settings of hexagon nuts.
Pull off clutch plate.
Release clutch plate carefully with two screwdrivers
A
and remove.
Pull off poly V-belt pulley.
Position commercially available two-arm puller
A
on shoulder
B
and pull off poly V-belt pulley.
Remove solenoid.
Installing
Fit solenoid
A
to air conditioner compressor.
Place locking pin
C
in recess of solenoid
A
.
Redetermine clearance of
air conditioning system magnetic clutch
N25
after assembly.
Checking clearance
Determining dimension
“1”
Measure distance between poly V-belt pulley
2
and clutch plate
3
with a depth gauge
1
, and note measurement.
Gap: 0.4…0.8 mm.
Perform 3 measurements at different locations. The measurements must not deviate.
Determining measurement
“2”
Separate connector
4
on air conditioner compressor.
Attach connector
4
to positive terminal of vehicle battery using an auxiliary cable.
Measure distance between poly V-belt pulley
2
and clutch plate
3
with a depth gauge
1
, and note measurement.
Determine clearance.
The clearance is the difference between measurement
“1”
and measurement
“2”
.
Note
The clearance must lie within the specified tolerances over the complete circumference.
The clearance can also be measured when the air conditioner compressor is installed.
If the clearance is outside of the specifications, remove the coupling disc and adjust the clearance by removing or adding spacers.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
