Removing and installing tensioner for poly V-belt (Golf, Eos, Scirocco) — VW
Removing and installing tensioner for poly V-belt (Golf, Eos, Scirocco) on VW: 17 steps, engines BZB, CAWA, CAWB, CBFA.
Removing and installing the poly V-belt tensioner on the Golf V (1K, 2003–2009), Golf VI (5K, 2008–2013), Eos and Scirocco with the petrol engines listed below. The tensioner bolts to the ancillary bracket behind the right-hand engine mounting, so the engine has to come down to reach it. Noise insulation, wheel housing liner and pendulum support come off first, plus the coolant pump bracket bolt and the auxiliary heater exhaust silencer where fitted. The engine weight is taken on support bracket 10 - 222 A, the belt removed, the mounting unbolted and the engine lowered approximately 55 mm. The racks must not sit on the wing screw plates, and the assembly mountings are adjusted after refitting.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the sound generator duct if fitted, noise insulation, right wheel housing liner and pendulum support. Detach the coolant pump bracket and auxiliary heater silencer, fit support bracket 10 - 222 A and take the engine weight. Remove the poly V-belt and mounting bolts, lower the engine about 55 mm and remove the tensioner. Refit, tighten the bolt, raise the engine and adjust the assembly mountings.
Fits: VW Golf V / Jetta (1K, 2003–2009), VW Golf VI (5K, 2008–2013); platform codes 1F7, 137

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
