Removing and installing rear seats: VW Touareg II

Step-by-step removing and installing rear seats for the VW Touareg II: 19 steps, 4 torque figures. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm.

Platform 7P points to the Touareg II of 2010–2018, and this job takes out the split rear seat as two sections, the larger 2/3 part and the 1/3 part. With the ignition off and the bench seats removed, the work is mostly four bolts per section and whatever electrical connectors that car's equipment has under the seat. The sections are heavy and awkward to lift out over the sill with the backrest folded, so the 2/3 section needs a second mechanic. On refit the order of the bolts matters: the rear pair on each section is only started, then the front pair is tightened to 50±7.5 Nm, then the rear pair. That way the frame is drawn down square rather than twisted. Reconnect every plug before calling it done.

🧭 Before you start

Switch off the ignition, remove the bench seats and disconnect any seat connectors. Remove the four screws from each section, fold the backrest forward and lift the sections out, with help for the 2/3 part. On installation, start the two rear bolts by hand, tighten the front pair, then the rear pair, all to 50±7.5 Nm, and reconnect the electrical connectors.

Fits: VW Touareg II (7P, 2010–2018)

Don't miss

  • Lift the 2/3 section in and out with a second mechanic.
  • Start bolts 3 and 4 (and 8 and 9) without tightening before torquing the others.
  • Tighten all seat bolts to 50±7.5 Nm in the given order.
  • Reconnect every electrical connector; the set depends on vehicle equipment.
  • Switch off the ignition before disconnecting seat wiring; standard practice with powered seat equipment.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
