Removing and installing fuse holder — VW
Removing and installing fuse holder on VW: 6 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to check after.
The dashboard fuse holder on the VW models built on the platform codes listed below sits behind the end panel of the dash on the driver's side, under the lower storage compartment. With the battery disconnected, the side cover on the dash panel is levered off and the driver's storage compartment is removed. The two securing screws (B) come out, and the holder is released by carefully pressing in its locking lugs and pulling it inwards. Patience with the lugs is what decides the job; a broken lug means the holder rattles or will not sit flush. On refitting, the screws are tightened to their specified torque, which is only 2 Nm, so they do not strip the plastic. Check that every circuit works before closing the trim.
🧭 Before you start
Disconnect the battery, lever off the dash side cover and remove the lower storage compartment on the driver side. Remove the two securing screws, press the locking lugs and take the fuse holder out inwards. Refit in reverse with the screws at their specified torque of 2 Nm.
Fits: platform codes 6S1, 6S2
Don't miss
- Disconnect the battery before releasing the fuse holder.
- Press the locking lugs carefully; they are easily broken.
- The securing screws take only 2 Nm, so do not overtighten into the plastic.
- Check the consumers on the holder work before refitting the trim.

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
