Removing and installing fuel filter, engine code CVCA, DEKA — VW

Removing and installing fuel filter, engine code CVCA, DEKA on VW: 25 steps, engines CVCA, DEKA. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

On engine codes CVCA and DEKA the fuel filter lives in the engine bay, clipped in among fuel and coolant hoses and the washer reservoir filler neck. There is no single-component swap here: the supply line and lines have to be unclipped and moved aside, the filter raised and unplugged, then the upper section separated from its housing by undoing the bolts in the numbered sequence. The housing itself comes away after its hose clips are released. Two things make it a clean job. First, catch and contain the fuel that escapes at both the upper section and the housing. Second, on refit, seat the guide on its pin, put the retainer back under the correct bolt and bleed the fuel system before you try to start the engine.

25 steps 2 engine codes

🧭 Before you start

With the ignition off, unclip the fuel hoses from the coolant hose and washer filler neck, pull off the supply line and lay the lines aside. Undo the retaining bolts, raise the filter and unplug its lower connector. Remove the upper section by unscrewing its bolts in the specified sequence, then release the hose clips and detach the housing. Refit in reverse with the retainer under its bolt and the guide on its pin, then bleed the fuel system.

Fits: platform codes A32, A33

Don't miss

  • Undo the upper-section bolts in the numbered sequence shown, not at random.
  • Have rags ready; fuel escapes both when the upper section and the housing come off.
  • Use hose clips to production standard on the fuel hose connections when refitting.
  • Make sure the guide is properly seated on its pin before tightening the bolts.
  • Bleed the fuel system after the job, before attempting to start the engine.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
