Removing and installing front side airbag with side airbag igniter N199/N200 — VW

Don't miss

• Ensure electrical connector is pushed fully onto stop and engages audibly.Ensure that no cables are trapped.
• If airbag warning lamp K75 indicates a fault following installation, event memory must be read, deleted and then read again .

🔩 Torque settings

📋 Procedure

1. ⚠ Follow safety regulations for pyrotechnic components .Also observe the additional safety regulations for the side airbag .Follow disposal regulations for pyrotechnic components . — Remove front left seat .
2. Remove right trim on seat .
3. Remove left trim on seat without adjustable seat height .
4. Remove left trim on seat with manually adjustable seat height .
5. Remove left trim on seat with electric height adjuster .

6. Remove front seat backrest .
7. Remove cover and backrest padding .
8. Detach connector (5) from side airbag (4).
9. Remove bolt (3) (9 Nm). — 9 Nm (6.6 lb-ft)
10. Remove catch (1) of side airbag (4) from mounting in backrest frame (2).
11. Remove side airbag (4) from backrest frame (2).
12. ⚠ Follow safety regulations for pyrotechnic components .Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. connecting the electrical connector), the person handling them must ensure that he/she is "“electrically discharged”". To do this e.g. briefly touch the door striker plate. — Install in reverse order of removal. [Note: Ensure electrical connector is pushed fully onto stop and engages audibly.Ensure that no cables are trapped.]
13. ⚠ Battery must be connected with ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag, seat belt tensioners) are repaired incorrectly, undesired triggering may occur after the battery is connected. Ensure that nobody is in vehicle when connecting battery. — Connect battery earth cable with ignition switched on Electrical system27Battery; Connecting and disconnecting battery. [Note: If airbag warning lamp K75 indicates a fault following installation, event memory must be read, deleted and then read again .]
