Removing and installing clutch pedal, Passat — VW
Removing and installing clutch pedal, Passat on VW: 12 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
On the VW Passat B6 (platform code 3C2, 2005–2010) the clutch pedal is not changed in the car. The whole pedal mounting bracket comes out first and is clamped in a vice with soft jaws, and only then is the pedal unbolted from it. The awkward bits are the over-centre spring, which has to be lifted out once the pedal is swung forward, and the master cylinder operating rod, which is released from the pedal with pliers T10005. Going back together, a retainer goes onto the operating rod and is pressed into the pedal's notch until it clicks, the over-centre spring is set in from above with assembly tool T10178 holding its end in the installed position, and the pedal tip is located in the spring's bearing recess. The self-locking nuts are replaced, not reused.
🧭 Before you start
The pedal mounting bracket is removed from the car and clamped in a vice with protective jaw pads. The pedal is unbolted from the bracket, swung forward slightly so the over-centre spring can be lifted out, released from the master cylinder with pliers T10005 and removed. For assembly the retainer is fitted to the operating rod and pressed into the pedal notch until it engages audibly, the over-centre spring is inserted from above with tool T10178, the pedal tip is seated in the spring's bearing recess, and with the pedal pressed slightly the bolt is pushed through and a new self-locking nut tightened. The bracket then goes back in the car.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
