Preparing wheel bearing housing for pressing-out procedure

Remove trim cap from light-alloy wheels (puller in vehicle tool kit).
Raise vehicle until front axle is off the ground.
Unfasten 12-point nut.
Remove wheels.

Detach connecting link from suspension strut on both sides of the vehicle.
Pull spring clip out from bracket and detach brake hose.
Detach wire for speed sensor from suspension strut.

Unscrew brake caliper from wheel bearing housing.
Attach braking caliper to mounting with wire.
Detach brake disc (disc is attached to hub with cross-head bolt).
Remove brake disc splash plate.

Unscrew upper nut from ball joint.

Leave nut a few thread turns on the ball joint to protect the thread.

Position pressing-out tool as illustrated and press out ball joint.

Remove drive shaft.

Ensure sufficient clearance when pressing out drive shaft.

Remove drive shaft from wheel bearing housing and tie it up.

Place gearbox lifter V.A.G 1383/A with universal mount V.A.G 1359/2 underneath (risk of accident caused by parts dropping out when pulling out wheel hub and wheel bearing).

Pulling out wheel hub

Insert thrust bolts - 1- in wheel bearing housing.
Install housing -2- for hollow piston cylinder -3- with tension bolt and special nut -4-.
Pull out wheel hub whilst holding tool.

1 - Thrust bolt E-15
2 - Bell E-40
3 - Hollow piston cylinder HPC-15
4 - Special nut E-8-214 and tension bolt
5 - High pressure hose with quick release coupling

Pulling out wheel bearing

Remove circlip.
Fit thrust pad -1- with collar facing bearing thrust sleeve -2- with the four graduated inside diameters facing wheel bearing housing, hollow piston cylinder -3- with tension bolt and special nut -4-.
Pull out wheel bearing by actuating pump.

1 - Thrust pad E-5
2 - Thrust sleeve E-65-1
3 - Hollow piston cylinder HPC-15
4 - Special nut E-8-214 and tension bolt

Detach bearing inner race from hub

Insert special tool -3423- as shown.
Screw cross-piece Kukko -18-0- into special tool
-3423-.
Mount special tool -40-105- on wheel hub and pull off bearing inner race by turning threaded stem.

Install wheel bearing

Note:

Pad containing 3 g of grease is included with wheel bearing set.

Pressing in wheel bearing

Position wheel bearing -1-, thrust piece -2-, (insert collar in bearing) and hollow piston cylinder -3-, with tension bolt at wheel bearing housing.
Fit thrust piece -4- with broad collar facing wheel bearing housing and special nut -5- from inside.
Press in wheel bearing by actuating pump.
Use pointed nose pliers to insert circlip.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
