Crankshaft flange with Engine speed sensor G28 rotor - remove — VW

Crankshaft flange with Engine speed sensor G28 rotor - remove on VW: 12 steps, engines CNXA, CSEA, CWRA, CWSA.

Removing the crankshaft flange together with the engine speed sensor G28 rotor on the engine codes listed below, on the platform codes listed below. This is a rear-of-engine job with the gearbox already off: the clutch and flywheel are removed, then the intermediate plate is lifted off its guide sleeves, the retainer tab removed and the plate led over the flange. The crankshaft has to be set to TDC and held with locating pin T10494; if the pin will not go fully home, the crankshaft is not in position, so turn it one more revolution and try again. With G28 removed and the flange bolts out, the flange and rotor are jacked off together using three M6 × 35 mm screws turned alternately, half a turn at a time.

🧭 Before you start

Remove the clutch and flywheel, take off the intermediate plate and remove ignition coil N70 to turn the crankshaft to TDC. Lock it with locating pin T10494, remove the engine speed sensor G28 and the flange bolts. Draw the flange and rotor off the crankshaft together with three M6 × 35 mm screws, turning them alternately.

Fits: platform codes 6A1, 6A5

  • Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job

Don't miss

  • Locating pin T10494 must go fully home; if not, turn one more revolution to TDC.
  • Remove G28 before drawing off the flange so the sensor is not damaged.
  • Turn the three puller screws alternately, at most half a turn each.
  • Flange and rotor come off together; do not separate them on the crankshaft.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
