Checking valve timing, vehicles without adjustable exhaust camshaft — VW
Checking valve timing, vehicles without adjustable exhaust camshaft on VW: 30 steps, 2 torque figures, engines CZCA, CZDA, CZDB, CZTA.
Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: VW Jetta VI (16, 2010–2018); platform codes AV3, AY3
- Opens: coolant
- Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
- Special tools named: T10527/1
- Renewed: o-ring of plug
Don't miss
- Turn the crankshaft in the normal direction of rotation until the piston in cylinder 1 shows "“BDC”".
- Locking pin T10340 locks crankshaft in direction of engine rotation only.
- Renew bolts that are tightened with specified tightening angle.Renew O-ring of plug if damaged.
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) | Screw locking pin as far as stop into cylinder block, and tighten it |
| 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) | Screw locking pin into cylinder block as far as stop, and tighten it |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
