Checking valve timing, engine codes CPTA, CZEA: VW (CPTA, CZEA)
Step-by-step checking valve timing, engine codes CPTA, CZEA for the VW (CPTA/CZEA): 30 steps, 1 torque figure.
Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: VW Golf VII Variant (BA), VW Golf Sportsvan (AM1, 2014–2020), VW Golf VII (5G, 2012–2020), VW Passat B8 (3G, 2014–), VW Touran II (5T, 2015–)
- Opens: coolant
- Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
- Special tools named: T10527/1, T10504
- Renewed: o-ring of plug
Don't miss
- Turn the crankshaft in the normal direction of rotation until the piston in cylinder 1 shows "“BDC”".
- Locking pin T10340 locks crankshaft in direction of engine rotation only.
- The camshaft clamp T10504 must slide into position easily.Do not knock camshaft clamp into place with any kind of tool.
- When camshafts are positioned as described, insert camshaft clamp T10504 into inlet camshaft as far as stop and fit bolts (arrows) (do not screw in yet).
- The groove (arrow) on the test pin T10504/2 must be flush with camshaft clamp T10504.
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) | Screw locking pin into cylinder block as far as stop and tighten |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
