6-speed manual gearbox 02Q — Bleeding clutch system — VW
6-speed manual gearbox 02Q — Bleeding clutch system on VW: 10 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Bleeding the hydraulic clutch on the 02Q six-speed manual gearbox is a pressure-bleed job done with brake filling and bleeding equipment, not a two-man pedal routine. It applies to the Golf V/Jetta 2003–2009, Golf VI 2008–2013, Touran I, Passat B6 2005–2010 and Passat CC 2008–2012, plus the other platform codes listed below. It means getting at the bleeder on the slave cylinder, which on some engines needs the complete air filter housing out of the way, connecting the equipment, running a bleeder hose to the collector bottle and holding the system at 2 bar while the bleeder is cracked about a quarter turn. The part people skip is the pedal work: 15 to 20 fast strokes by hand with the valve open, then ten more by foot once the pressure is off. Miss that and the pedal stays spongy.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the complete air filter housing if it blocks the bleeder connection. Connect the brake filling and bleeding equipment, run the bleeder hose from the bleeder to the collector bottle and pressurise the system to 2 bar. Open the bleeder valve about a quarter turn and move the clutch pedal 15 to 20 times quickly by hand from stop to stop, then close the valve and switch the equipment off. Once the 2 bar pressure is released, operate the pedal ten more times by foot and refit the air filter housing.
Fits: VW Passat CC (357, 2008–2012), VW Touran I (1T, 2003–2015), VW Golf V / Jetta (1K, 2003–2009), VW Passat B6 (3C, 2005–2010), VW Golf VI (5K, 2008–2013); platform codes 5M1, 1F7, 521

Don't miss
- Pressurise to 2 bar and open the bleeder only about a quarter turn.
- Work the pedal 15 to 20 times fast by hand, stop to stop, with the valve open.
- Close the bleeder before switching the equipment off.
- After the pressure is released, operate the pedal ten more times by foot.
- Refit the air filter housing if it was removed for access.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
