Ancil XUD11BTE belt 406 — PEUGEOT
Ancil XUD11BTE belt 406 on Peugeot: 54 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Ancillary drive belt renewal on the 406 2.1 D Turbo with the XUD11BTE. The layout and tensioning differ between cars without air conditioning and those with power steering and air conditioning, so identify the version first. Access is through the front right wheel arch: wheel, front right splash guard and lower splash guard off. Depending on version, the belt is slackened either by loosening the bolt that tensions it or by unlocking the automatic tensioner with a square spanner and pinning it. Where tension is set by hand, use a tension gauge and the separate new-belt and used-belt values. Turning the engine four times by hand before the final check is what confirms the setting.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the wheel and both splash guards, then release the tensioner for your version and remove the belt. Fit the new belt and either set the tension with a gauge or release the automatic tensioner by removing the locking pin. Tighten the tensioner and tensioner body bolts, turn the engine four times by hand and recheck the tension or that the locking pin can be inserted and removed. Refit the splash guards and wheel.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
