Timing chain replacement: Ford Mondeo01 2.5 Duratec-VE (LCBD)
Step-by-step timing chain replacement for the Ford Mondeo01 2.5 Duratec-VE (LCBD): 294 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Renewing the timing chains on the Ford Mondeo 2.5 Duratec-VE V6 24V (LCBD) is a front-of-engine strip-down. The battery earth goes first, then the inlet side is cleared, the wheel arch lining and right wheel come off, and the alternator and power steering pump are removed. The engine is supported so the mounting bracket can come off, the oil is drained and the sump removed, and the crankshaft pulley bolt is taken out so the front cover can be removed. Alignment marks are applied to the chain links, the tensioners are unlocked and the chains and guides removed bank by bank. Two things decide the outcome: aligning the chain links with the gearwheel marks on each bank, and fitting sealed covers within 6 minutes of applying sealant.
🧭 Before you start
Disconnect the battery and remove the inlet manifold components, coils, wiring and cylinder head covers. Support the engine, remove the mounting bracket, alternator, power steering pump, crankshaft pulley, sump and front cover. Set the engine to TDC, mark the chains and remove tensioners, guides and chains from each bank. Fit the new chains to the marks, unlock the tensioners, check the timing marks, then refit covers with fresh sealant, renew seals and gaskets, refill the oil and reconnect the battery.
Fits: platform codes 2.5, DURATEC-VE, V6, 24V
- Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
Don't miss
- Apply alignment marks to the chain links before removing the chains.
- Fit sealed covers within 6 minutes of applying the sealant.
- Tighten covers and the sump in the order shown.
- Renew the crankshaft and camshaft oil seals, O-rings and gaskets.
- If timing marks are misaligned, rotate the engine 1 turn and recheck.
- Support the engine before the mounting bracket comes off.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
