Workshop procedure for AUDI — the factory write-up, straight from real workshop data.

factory workshop text

📋 Procedure

ℹ️ Torque figures below come verbatim from workshop data — always cross-check against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening.

HD = High-pressure side

ND = Low-pressure side

Notes:

Replacement compressors contain all the refrigerant oil to be used to fill the refrigerant circuit (250 cm3).

Compressor ("Zexel" or "Denso")
O-ring seals (for refrigerant pipes at "Zexel" compressor):
LP connection: 17.2 mm; 1.8 mm
HP connection: 14.0 mm; 1.8 mm

Tightening torques (for refrigerant pipes at "Zexel" compressor):
LP connection: 40 Nm
HP connection: 30 Nm
Detaching refrigerant pipes from "Denso" compressor (associated O-ring seal and tightening torques of securing bolts) => Page

.

.

Notes:

Assignment of different compressors => Page
87-10
The piston stroke of the compressor is variable and automatically adjusts to the requisite refrigeration capacity.

After the installation of a new compressor or filling with fresh refrigerant oil (e.g. after blowing out the refrigerant circuit), turn the compressor 10 revolutions by hand before the first start to avoid damage to the compressor.

Notes:

Removing and installing ribbed belt => Page
87-10
.
Mark direction of ribbed belt before removing - reversing the direction of rotation can destroy the belt.

Oil drain plug
O-ring seal ("Zexel" compressor):
7.8 mm; 1.9 mm.
Tightening torque:
10 Nm ("Zexel" compressor)
30 Nm ("Denso" compressor)

Notes:

Instead of an O-ring seal, "Denso" compressors feature a sealing ring which must always be renewed.
Remove only to drain off refrigerant oil.

=> Air Conditioner with Refrigerant R134a

"Zexel" and "Denso" compressors use different refrigerant oils

=> Air Conditioner with Refrigerant R134a

Pressure relief valve
O-ring seal:
8.8 mm; 1.9 mm.
Tightening torque: 10 Nm

Important:
The connection is not fitted with a valve; only remove pressure relief valve when refrigerant circuit is empty.
Connection with valve
Air conditioner pressure switch -F129/high-pressure sender -G65
Function, removing and installing pressure switch -F129 => Page
87-23
.
Removing and installing high-pressure sender -G65 => Page
87-22
High-pressure sender -G65, checking signal => Page
01-342

Notes:

Pressure switch -F129 was installed in vehicles up to model year 2001.
A high-pressure sender -G65 is installed in vehicles from model year 2002.

Condenser

Union in the refrigerant pipe
O-ring seal:
10.8 mm; 1.8 mm.
Tightening torque: 15 Nm

Cap
With seal, must always be fitted.

Service connection
High-pressure side.
For measuring, draining and filling at service station.

Restrictor
O-ring seal:
7.5 mm; 1.5 mm.
Fitted in union, - 8 -
Removing and installing =>Page
87-239
.
Always renew restrictor with O-ring seal

Evaporator
Disconnecting and connecting refrigerant lines => Page
87-237
Removing and installing air conditioner => Page
87-267
.
Dismantling and assembling air-conditioner => Page
87-271
.
Different versions; on air conditioners from version "2" onwards the evaporator is 32 mm narrower than on version "1".

From version "2" onwards, the evaporator can only be replaced together with the air distributor housing.

Service connection
Low-pressure side
For measuring and draining with service station.

Cap
With seal, must always be fitted.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
