Testing intake manifold pressure sender -G71 and altitude sender -F96 — AUDI
Testing intake manifold pressure sender -G71 and altitude sender -F96 on Audi: factory workshop procedure for engines 1Z, AHU, AJM, ASZ.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the factory write-up, straight from real workshop data.
📋 Procedure
Intake manifold pressure sender -G71 is located in the Diesel direct injection system control unit.
In Version 1 of the diesel direct injection system1), altitude sender -F96 is a separate component. Fitting location=>Page
23-3
.
In Version 2 of the diesel direct injection system1), altitude sender -F96 is located in the Diesel direct injection system control unit.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items
Turbocharger tester V.A.G 1397 A
Hand-held multimeter V.A.G 1526 or V.A.G 1526 A
Fault reader V.A.G 1551 (or vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552) with cable V.A.G 1551/1
Adapter set V.A.G 1594 A
Test box V.A.G 1598/18
Test requirement:
Engine not running
Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 and select engine electronics control unit => Page

.
Observe the readouts in display zone 2 (altitude sender -F96) and display zone 3 (intake manifold pressure sender -G71).
Specification: The pressures should be the same.
Tolerance:±30 mbar
If the specification is not attained:
Compare displayed pressures with pressure according to a barometer (e.g. turbocharger tester V.A.G 1397/A).
Tolerance:±30 mbar.
If the value in display zone 3 does not agree:
Detach pressure hose from control unit.
If the value in display zone 3 still does not agree:

If the value in display zone 2 does not agree and a value of 1024 mbar is displayed constantly:
Injection system Version 11):
Test wiring for open circuit and short to positive or earth.

Testing wiring
Switch off ignition.
Unplug connector for altitude sender -F96
=>Fitting locations overview, Page
23-3
.
Select voltage measurement range (20 V direct current) on hand-held multimeter V.A.G 1526 and connect it to contacts 1 and 2 of the connector using test leads from V.A.G 1594 A.
Switch on ignition.
Specification: approx. 5 V
If the specification is not attained:
With the ignition switched off, connect test box V.A.G 1598/18 to connector for engine control unit=>Page
23-49
.
Test for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring connections:
Connector / for -F96 / Contact · Test box / V.A.G 1598/18 / / Socket
1 · 41
2 · 33
3 · 40
Test all wires for short circuit to each other.
Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary.
If the wiring is OK:
Injection system Version 11):
Fit a new altitude sender -F96.
Injection system Version 21):
Fit a new Diesel direct injection system control unit -J248

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
