📋 Procedure

AVF AWX
Elevation sender is located in diesel direct injection system control unit. The intake manifold pressure sender is a separate component located together with the intake manifold temperature sender in a joint housing at the intake manifold.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Turbocharger tester V.A.G 1397 A

Note:

The turbocharger tester is required to provide an independent reference value. The tester must be set to measuring range I (absolute pressure). Alternatively use can also be made of a barometer.

Test sequence

Read measured value block, display group 010, engine not running => Page 01-104.

Display on VAS 5051:

Observe displays in zones -2- (elevation sender -F96) and -3- (intake manifold pressure sender -G71).
Specification: Coinciding pressures
Tolerance ± 30 mbar

In the event of deviation of value in display zone 2:

Replace engine control unit => Page 23-52.

In the event of deviation of value in display zone 3:

Start engine and let it idle.
Unplug connector at intake manifold pressure sender -G71 -arrow-.

Read measured value block, display group 010, engine idling
=> Page 01-104.

Display on VAS 5051:

Observe display in zone -3- (intake manifold pressure sender -G71).
Specification: Constant drop in reading until value of elevation sender (display zone 2) is attained

Terminate function "08 - Reading measured value block" by touching ◂ key.
Touch "06 - End of output".

If reading matches specification:

Replace intake manifold pressure sender with intake manifold temperature sender.

If reading does not match specification:

Checking wiring

Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to engine control unit wiring harness. Actual engine control unit is not to be connected=>Page 23-50.
Check for open circuit and short to earth/positive in the following wiring.

Connector / Contact · Test box V.A.G 1598/31 / Socket
1 · 52
3 · 31
4 · 71

If necessary, eliminate open circuit in wiring/short circuit.

If no fault is found in wiring:

Replace engine control unit => Page 23-52.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
