📋 Procedure

Test requirements:

Gearbox control unit disconnected
Ignition switched off
Test box V.A.G 1598 A with adapter cable V.A.G 1598/5 connected to the disconnected 55-pin multiple connector or with adapter 1589/20 to the disconnected 88-pin multiple connector of the gearbox wiring harness.

Set down the test box outside of vehicle.

Test wiring to F125 multi-function switch

Remove spring bracket lock of connector -1- for multifunction switch -F125.

Test wiring connections with V.A.G 1526 A and test lead from V.A.G 1594 between the contacts of the connector and sockets of test box V.A.G 1598 A or of adapter V.A.G 1598/20 according to current flow diagram.

Note:

In particular, test for contact corrosion, leaks and water damage in the connectors.
If no impermissible deviations were found in the wiring test but the test table shows deviations, replace multi-function switch -F125.

Test wiring to 8-pin connector on the gearbox

Unplug 8-pin connector from gearbox => Page
01-260
.
Test wiring connections with V.A.G 1526 A and test lead from V.A.G 1594 between the contacts of the 8-pin connector and sockets of test box V.A.G 1598 A or of adapter V.A.G 1598/20 according to current flow diagram.

Note:

In particular, test for contact corrosion, leaks and water damage in the connectors.

Testing wiring harness in gearbox

Note:

Perform test if the solenoid valves do not click in the final control diagnosis or if defects were found in the electrical test of the solenoid valves with test box V.A.G 1598, but the wiring connections from the gearbox control unit to the 8-pin connector are OK.

Unplug 8-pin connector from gearbox => Page
01-260
.

Connect hand-held multimeter V.A.G 1526 A with test leads from V.A.G 1594 to the connector according to the table for the resistance measurement.

Component · Contacts on connector · Specification ω
Solenoid valve 1 -N88 · M + H · 30 ... 40
Solenoid valve 2 -N89 · M + K · 30 ... 40
Solenoid valve 3 -N90 · M + L · 30 ... 40
Solenoid valve 4 -N91 · M + B · 5 ... 8
Gearbox oil temperature sender -G93 / at approx. 20 oC · E + F · 500 ... 3000 / / 940

If any deviations from the specification are found in this test:

Detach wiring harness from relevant solenoid valve and test according to current flow diagram. If necessary, replace wiring harness.
Measure resistance at solenoid valve again and replace valve or valve body if necessary.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
