Renewing connection on gearshift actuator for R tronic — AUDI
Renewing connection on gearshift actuator for R tronic on Audi: 13 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: platform code 42
- Renewed: connection
Don't miss
- This will prevent damage to the surfaces during removal.
- Make sure release tool T40161 is applied below the collar of the connection, so that the connection is lifted when the tool is compressed.
- The internal aperture must be sealed off temporarily to prevent metal particles and dirt from entering the gearshift actuator for R tronic.
- The lugs on retaining clip (2) must point upwards so the connection engages securely in the gearshift actuator for R tronic as the clip expands after installation.
📋 Procedure
- ⚠ The gearshift actuator for R tronic can be damaged if the connection on the actuator is removed incorrectly.Only renew connection if damaged. The seat for the connection in the gearshift actuator for R tronic can be damaged.Remove all metal particles thoroughly. — Mask off surfaces of gearshift actuator for R tronic around connection with adhesive tape. [Note: This will prevent damage to the surfaces during removal.]
- Apply release tool T40161 below collar of connection (A).
- Compress release tool T40161 as indicated by (arrows) using mole grips or similar. [Note: Make sure release tool T40161 is applied below the collar of the connection, so that the connection is lifted when the tool is compressed.]
- Continue to compress release tool T40161.
- Remove connection by levering backwards and forwards as shown (arrows).
- Remove any dirt from aperture in gearshift actuator for R tronic with a vacuum cleaner and clean thoroughly to prevent metal particles from entering the hydraulic system. [Note: The internal aperture must be sealed off temporarily to prevent metal particles and dirt from entering the gearshift actuator for R tronic.]
- Clean out aperture using a vacuum cleaner.
- Close off internal aperture in gearshift actuator for R tronic (with sealing plug, etc.) to prevent dirt from entering.
- Carefully deburr upper aperture on gearshift actuator for R tronic.
- Remove particles with a vacuum cleaner, clean aperture and remove sealing plug.
- Lightly lubricate O-ring (1) on connection with hydraulic fluid. [Note: The lugs on retaining clip (2) must point upwards so the connection engages securely in the gearshift actuator for R tronic as the clip expands after installation.]
- Press connection into aperture in gearshift actuator for R tronic as far as stop.
- Install hydraulic return hose

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
