Removing and installing reservoir: Audi A6 C6
Step-by-step removing and installing reservoir for the Audi A6 C6: 24 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011)
- Opens: refrigerant (A/C)
- Special tools named: VAS 5051
Don't miss
- Moisten the O-rings slightly with refrigerant oil before fitting .
- Following attachment, check the routing of the refrigerant pipes. They must be inserted in the holders provided and not make contact with other components.
- Also heed the notes on start-up of the air conditioner after charging Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.
📋 Procedure
- Drain refrigerant circuit Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.
- Remove front bumper cover General body repairs, exterior63.
- Remove the left headlight Electrical system94.
- Remove the charge air cooler Engine, mechanics21.
- Screw out bolts (A) and detach refrigerant pipes (B) and (C). [Note: Depending on the version it may also be possible to remove the reservoir without the holder (the bolts (A) and the nut (B) are then not to be unfastened).Depending on the problem and the version, it may also be possible to remove the reservoir without the holder. In this case (Items A, B, C, F) can be ignored.]
- Remove the bolts (A) and the nut (B) (only if the holder (G) is to be removed).
- Unfasten the holder (F) of the refrigerant pipe from the holder (G) (only if the holder (G) is to be removed).
- Detach the reservoir (E) with the holder (G) (only if the holder (G) is also to be removed).
- Slacken off bolts (D) and remove reservoir (E) from holder (G). [Note: Seal the open connections at the reservoir and the pipe connections with suitable caps (to prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture). The design of the reservoir and attachment of the refrigerant pipes differ depending on the engine version: Electronic parts catalogueThe reservoir removed contains refrigerant oil which has to be returned to the refrigerant circuit Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.] [Note: The removed reservoir contains refrigerant oil which has to be returned to the refrigerant circuit (with new reservoir). Adjustment of the oil quantity depends on the nature of the problem. If, for example, reservoir has been damaged in an accident (no loss of refrigerant, no ingress of moisture and dirt into refrigerant circuit), air conditioner can be serviced by weighing old and new reservoir without the need for extensive repair work. Pour refrigerant oil into new reservoir until it weighs the same as the reservoir removed Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.Keep new reservoirs closed for as long as possible, only remove the caps immediately before installation (the reservoir contains a desiccant bag which soon becomes saturated with moisture and hence unusable when the reservoir is open). If for example in the case of an accident involving refrigerant, an indeterminate amount of refrigerant oil has escaped or dirt and moisture have ingressed into the refrigerant circuit, clean (purge) the refrigerant circuit Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.Connections at reservoir may be marked "“IN”" (from evaporator) and "“Out”" (to compressor).]
- Insert reservoir (E) in holder (G), paying attention to locking and locating element (J).
- Tighten bolts (D).
- Attach washer (C) to pin (H).
- Install the reservoir (E) with the holder (G).
- Fit the bolts (A) and the nut (B).
- Replace O-rings (D) and (E), version Electronic parts catalogue
- Check guide ring (H) at connections of both refrigerant pipes (B) and (C) for damage.
- Insert appropriate O-ring ((D) and (E)) in groove (J) at connections of both refrigerant pipes (B) and (C). [Note: Moisten the O-rings slightly with refrigerant oil before fitting .]
- Fit refrigerant pipes (B) and (C).
- Fit the bolts (A).
- Following attachment, check the routing of the refrigerant pipes. They must be inserted in the holders provided and not make contact with other components.
- Re-install the other components removed.
- Evacuate and refill the refrigerant circuit Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.
- Interrogate the fault memory of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit J255 and erase any faults displayed "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
- Start up the air conditioner after charging the refrigerant circuit . [Note: Also heed the notes on start-up of the air conditioner after charging Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.]

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
