Removing and installing left temperature flap control motor V158 — AUDI

Removing and installing left temperature flap control motor V158 on Audi: 26 steps, 4 torque figures.

Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

26 steps 4 torque figures torque figures merged from 12 documented variants

🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi A5 (8T, 2007–2016), Audi Q5 (8R, 2008–2017), Audi A5 Cabriolet (8F), Audi A4 B8 (8K, 2007–2015); platform code 83

  • Special tools named: VAS 5051

Don't miss

  • Right-hand drive vehicles: Remove storage compartment beneath dash panel (driver's side) and air intake box .
  • Mark connector (C) to prevent interchange.
  • The control motor has no stop; therefore the gear wheel (C) can be attached to the shaft of the control motor in any position.
  • The control motor and the gear wheel (J) have no stop; therefore the gear wheel (J) and the toothed segment (F) (of the temperature flap shaft) can be assembled in any position.

🔩 Torque settings

Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.

TorqueFastener / step
1 Nm (0.7 lb-ft)Carefully tighten bolts

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure

  1. Switch on ignition.
  2. Move driver's seat to rearmost position.
  3. On air conditioner operating and display unit (Climatronic control unit J255), set direction of air flow for driver's and passenger's side to footwell vents. [Note: In the "“air to footwell vents”" setting, the defroster flap control motor V107 moves the connecting rod (A) to a position in which the bolt (B) is accessible. If the defroster flap control motor V107 does not move the connecting rod (A) to the required position, it may be necessary to remove the control motor .]
  4. Switch off ignition.
  5. Remove storage compartment beneath dash panel (driver side) General body repairs, interior68Shelves / trim panels; Removing and installing dash panel trim (driver side). [Note: Right-hand drive vehicles: Remove storage compartment beneath dash panel (driver's side) and air intake box .]

  1. Remove left footwell vent (driver's side) .
  2. Remove steering column Running gear, axles, steering48Steering column; Removing and installing steering column.
  3. Remove pedal cluster and accelerator pedal module Brake system46Brake pedal; Removing and installing mounting bracket and 20Accelerator mechanism; Removing and installing accelerator pedal module with accelerator position sender G79/G185.
  4. Remove left centre vent control motor V110(B).
  5. Mark connector (C) to prevent interchange.
  6. Unplug connector (C).
  7. Remove bolts (B).
  8. Release pin (D) (at bracket of control motor (E)) from toothed segment (F) (of temperature flap shaft) and remove bracket (E) (with control motor) in direction of arrow.
  9. Remove bolts (A) and detach control motor (B) from bracket (D).
  10. Detach gear wheel (C) from shaft (D) of control motor. [Note: On right-hand drive vehicles, the temperature flap is not actuated directly via the gear wheel (C) attached to the shaft (D) of the control motor (as it is on left-hand drive vehicles). On right-hand drive vehicles, the temperature flap is not actuated via the gear wheel (A) attached to the shaft of the control motor (C). These vehicles are fitted with a second gear wheel (B) (diameter of gear wheels (A) and (B) is slightly smaller than that of single gear wheel on left-hand drive version). The gear wheel (B) then actuates the temperature flap via the toothed segment inserted in the shaft.]
  11. Attach gear wheel (C) to shaft (E) of control motor (B). [Note: The control motor has no stop; therefore the gear wheel (C) can be attached to the shaft of the control motor in any position.]
  12. By turning in direction of arrow, turn toothed segment (F) (of temperature flap shaft) as far as it will go into position shown.
  13. Insert guide (G) (at bracket (E) with control motor) in mounting (H) (at air conditioning unit).
  14. Slide bracket (E) in direction opposite to arrow towards toothed segment (F) and insert pin (D) (at bracket of control motor (E)) in toothed segment (F) (of temperature flap shaft). [Note: The control motor and the gear wheel (J) have no stop; therefore the gear wheel (J) and the toothed segment (F) (of the temperature flap shaft) can be assembled in any position.]
  15. Fit bolts (B).
  16. Plug in connector (C).
  17. Route wiring harness so that it cannot come into contact with moving components (e.g. lever).
  18. Re-install all other components removed in reverse order.
  19. Switch on ignition.
  20. Perform basic setting and final control diagnosis for air conditioner Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 ("Guided Fault Finding"). [Note: The control motors on this vehicle are equipped with an electronic feature which enables a new control motor to learn its position at the air conditioning unit during basic setting; only then can it be activated by the air conditioner operating and display unit (Climatronic control unit J255); currently all control motors are identical Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 ("Guided Fault Finding").While you are performing the basic setting, the control motors are assigned and adapted in accordance with the series connection of the wiring. If the sequence is not as specified, the control motors will not be adapted properly and the flaps will not be controlled correctly (overview of air conditioner control motors).]
  21. Interrogate event memory of air conditioner operating and display unit (Climatronic control unit J255) and erase any faults displayed Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 ("Guided Fault Finding").

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
