Removing and installing front door trim, Transporter — AUDI

Removing and installing front door trim, Transporter on Audi: 20 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Front door trim on the VW Transporter T5 and T6 (platform codes 7H/7J and 7E/7F) is held by spreader rivets, two sets of bolts and clips around the edge, then hung on the door top. On vans with a manual window winder the handle comes off first: push the spacer ring in to release the securing clip and pull the winder off the drive. Controls are unplugged, a trim insert is levered out, the fixings removed, and the panel lifted vertically off. It then hangs on the interior handle Bowden cable and wiring, which need freeing in the right order. Damaged retaining clips are the usual cause of rattles afterwards, so check them before the panel goes back.

20 steps

🧭 Before you start

Switch off the ignition, remove the window winder, unplug the door controls and lever out the trim insert. Unclip the spreader rivets, remove both sets of bolts, lever the panel off its mountings and lift it straight up. Release the Bowden cable retainer from the interior handle, unhook the cable and disconnect the wiring. Refit in reverse, renewing any damaged clips and fitting the winder onto the drive in its locked position.

Fits: VW Transporter T5 (7H), VW Transporter T5 (7J), VW Transporter T6 (7E), VW Transporter T6 (7F)

  • Renewed: if necessary

Don't miss

  • Lift the trim panel vertically; pulling it outward first damages the top mounting.
  • Release the Bowden cable retainer in sequence: locking element out, retainer rearwards, then outwards.
  • Inspect retaining clips and renew any damaged ones before refitting the panel.
  • Clip the window winder on in the locked position; left and right winders are mirror images.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
