Removing and installing engine bracket — AUDI
Removing and installing engine bracket on Audi: 28 steps, engines CAYD, CAYE, CFHC, CFHE. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
This is the engine bracket job on the TDI engines CAYD, CAYE, CFHC, CFHE, CFHF, CFJA, CLCA and CLCB, for the platform codes listed below. It is a proper engine-support job: the engine and gearbox must be held on support bracket 10-222A before the assembly mounting comes off, and only then may the bracket be unbolted. Getting there means removing the air hose, fuel filter and supplementary fuel pump V393, pushing the coolant expansion tank aside and taking off the right coolant pipe. The bracket bolts come out in sequence (3…1) and the bracket lifts out upwards. What decides the outcome is the refit: new bolts, run in hand-tight in the sequence (1...3), then tightened in the specified sequence, because a bracket tightened out of order can be stressed and crack.
🧭 Before you start
Clear the air hose, fuel filter, supplementary fuel pump and expansion tank, then hang the engine on support bracket 10-222A with its adapters and hooks. Remove the connecting bracket and engine mounting, clamp and disconnect the coolant hoses, take off the right coolant pipe and unbolt the engine bracket in sequence. Fit the new bracket with new bolts in the prescribed sequence, refit the mounting and lower the bracket onto it with the spindle before fitting the last bolts.
Fits: platform code 2C0
Don't miss
- Never remove the assembly mounting unless the engine is held on support bracket 10-222A.
- Use new bracket bolts; start them hand-tight in the sequence (1...3).
- Follow the tightening sequence exactly, or the bracket can be stressed and break.
- Bolt (1) is reached through an aperture in the wheel housing.
- Watch hoses and components when raising or lowering the engine on the spindles.
- Mounting refit: tighten bolts (3) and (6) first, then (1) and (2).

📋 Procedure
- Remove air hose; loosen hose clip (4) for this.
- Remove fuel filter Fuel supply20Removing and installing fuel filter.
- Remove supplementary fuel pump V393Fuel supply20Supplementary fuel pump V393; Removing and installing Supplementary fuel pump V393.
- Remove bolts (arrows).
- Disconnect electrical connector (1) for coolant shortage indicator switch F66 and push coolant expansion tank to side.
- Open quick-release fasteners (A) and (B) of fuel lines.
- Unclip coolant hose bracket (1) by pushing to side.
- Loosen bolt (1).
- Unscrew bolt (2) and nut (3).
- Take hose retainer (4) off fuel filter, place fuel filter (7) aside (fuel hoses (5) and (6) remain connected).
- Remove expanders from top side of wing on left and right.
- Set up support bracket10-222A together with adapters10-222A/30, adapter10-222A/3 and adapter10-222A/16 behind gas strut for bonnet.
- Attach hooks10 - 222 A /2.
- Then, attach hook10 - 222 A /2 to adapter10 - 222 A /16.
- Take up weight of engine/gearbox assembly by means of spindles. [Note: The assembly mounting may only be removed if the engine is supported with support bracket10 - 222 A!The engine bracket must be loosened only when the assembly mounting has been removed.]
- Unscrew bolts (1) and (2) and remove connecting bracket.
- Unscrew bolts (3 … 6) and remove engine mounting.
- Clamp off coolant hoses with hose clips, up to 25 mm3094, release hose clips (arrows) and remove from coolant pipes.
- Disconnect electrical connector (3) on radiator outlet coolant temperature sender G83.
- Remove nut (1) and bolt (2), remove right coolant pipe. [Note: The bolt (1) is accessible through an aperture in the wheel housing. Raise and lower engine using spindle of support bracket10 - 222 A to remove or start bolts (2) and (3).]
- ⚠ When raising and lowering engine using support bracket10-222A, ensure that no components or hoses are damaged, overstretched or torn off. — Unscrew bolts of engine bracket in sequence (3…1).
- Remove engine bracket out upwards.
- ⚠ The tightening sequence and specified torques for the engine bracket securing bolts must always be followed. Otherwise the engine bracket can be stressed, causing it to break. — Insert engine bracket from above. [Note: The bolt (1) is accessible through an aperture in the wheel housing. Raise and lower engine using spindle of support bracket10 - 222 A to remove or start bolts (2) and (3).]
- Initially screw in new bolts hand-tight in the sequence (1...3).
- Tighten bolts in the specified sequence to the prescribed torque.
- Fit engine assembly mounting in position. First, tighten bolts (3) and (6) and then (1) and (2).
- Use the spindle to bring the engine bracket to rest on the assembly mounting.
- Insert bolts (4) and (5) and then tighten them.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
