🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi A6 C5 (4B)

  • Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
  • Special tools named: locking pin
  • Renewed: o-ring, securing bolts

Don't miss

  • The engine must only be turned at the crankshaft, in the direction of normal engine rotation (clockwise). — Turn crankshaft at central bolt on crankshaft sprocket in direction of engine rotation to "“TDC”" mark.
  • Unscrew plug for TDC marking from cylinder block.
  • To prevent damage to the dual-mass flywheel when removing, the bolts (B) must not be removed with an impact wrench or similar. The bolts may only be removed by hand using conventional tools.
  • Renew O-ring.A needle bearing is fitted in the dual-mass flywheel; knock in the needle bearing when fitting a new flywheel .
  • Remove locking pin T40026 and screw plug for "“TDC”" marking into cylinder block together with new O-ring.

🔩 Torque settings

Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure

  1. ⚠ The engine must only be turned at the crankshaft, in the direction of normal engine rotation (clockwise). — Turn crankshaft at central bolt on crankshaft sprocket in direction of engine rotation to "“TDC”" mark.
  2. If fitted, unplug electrical connector at continued circulation coolant pump V51.
  3. Unscrew plug for TDC marking from cylinder block.
  4. Screw locking pin T40026 into bore; if necessary, turn crankshaft backwards and forwards slightly to fully centralise locking pin.
  5. Remove clutch pressure plate 30.

  1. Mark installation position of dual-mass flywheel on crankshaft. [Note: To prevent damage to the dual-mass flywheel when removing, the bolts (B) must not be removed with an impact wrench or similar. The bolts may only be removed by hand using conventional tools.]
  2. Rotate the dual-mass flywheel (A) so that the bolts align with the holes (arrows).
  3. When unscrewing the bolts, make sure that the bolt heads do not come into contact with the dual-mass flywheel; the flywheel will otherwise be damaged as the bolts are screwed out. [Note: Renew O-ring.A needle bearing is fitted in the dual-mass flywheel; knock in the needle bearing when fitting a new flywheel .]
  4. Use new securing bolts.
  5. Install clutch pressure plate 30.
  6. Remove locking pin T40026 and screw plug for "“TDC”" marking into cylinder block together with new O-ring.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
