Removing and installing driver's airbag unit: Audi A2

Step-by-step removing and installing driver's airbag unit for the Audi A2: 9 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm.

The driver's airbag unit on the platform code listed below is released from behind the steering wheel through two Torx T30 bolts, reached by turning the wheel. After consulting the current airbag safety precautions, the column adjuster is released, the wheel pulled fully out and up and set vertical, one bolt slackened, the wheel turned half a turn and the second bolt slackened. The connector is unplugged and the unit laid down with the cushion facing up. On refitting, the connector must be heard to engage fully. The battery is reconnected with the ignition on and nobody in the car, and if the airbag warning lamp shows a fault the system is interrogated with the diagnostic tester.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
