Removing and installing dash panel cover (top) on driver side (knee bolster) — AUDI

Removing and installing dash panel cover (top) on driver side (knee bolster) on Audi: 11 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

This job removes the upper driver-side dash panel cover, the knee bolster, on the Audi Q7 4L (2005–2015). It is a trim job but an easy one to get wrong, because the order matters: the lower driver-side cover comes off first, then the top cover is released by working a removal wedge between it and the dash panel and unhooking its securing hooks, pulling it off in the direction the hooks run. Only then are the two bolts removed and the knee bolster detached. Doing it out of sequence risks damaging the dash panel itself. On refit the five clips are the thing to watch: check each one, renew any that are broken or missing, and fit them with the hook end at the top.

11 steps

🧭 Before you start

Remove the lower driver-side dash cover, then lever the top cover away from the dash with a removal wedge and unhook its securing hooks, pulling it off in line with the hooks. Take out the two bolts and lift the knee bolster away. Before refitting, inspect the five clips, renew any damaged ones and push them fully into the dash panel with the hook end uppermost.

Fits: Audi Q7 (4L, 2005–2015)

Don't miss

  • Follow the removal sequence exactly; working out of order can damage the dash panel.
  • Use a plastic removal wedge between dash and cover, not a screwdriver.
  • Pull the cover off in the direction of the securing hooks.
  • Check all five clips; renew any damaged or missing ones.
  • Fit each clip with its hook end at the top and pushed fully home.

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
