Removing and installing dash panel trim (driver side): Audi A3

Step-by-step removing and installing dash panel trim (driver side) for the Audi A3: 11 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

The driver-side dash panel trim on the Audi A3 2003–2012 (8P) is the lower panel that carries the light switch and the diagnostic socket. Before touching it, all electrical equipment is switched off and the key removed. The dash panel end trim on the driver side comes off first to expose the side bolt, two more bolts are undone at the bottom, and the top edge is unclipped from the dash panel. The panel then hangs on its wiring: the light switch connectors are unplugged, the 16-pin diagnostic connector T16 is unclipped, and on cars with a footwell light that connector is released too. Finally the panel is pulled out of the spring clip at the foot rest. Refitting: bottom edge into the foot rest clip first, then the top into the dash panel clips.

11 steps

🧭 Before you start

Switch all electrical equipment off and remove the ignition key. Remove the dash panel end trim, undo the side bolt and the two bottom bolts, and unclip the top edge of the trim from the dash panel. Unplug the light switch connectors, unclip the 16-pin diagnostic connector and, where fitted, the footwell light connector, then pull the trim out of the spring clip at the foot rest. Refit by inserting the bottom into the foot rest clip and the top into the spring clips at the dash panel.

Fits: Audi A3 (8P, 2003–2012)

Don't miss

  • All electrical equipment off and key out before unplugging the light switch.
  • Dash panel end trim must come off first to reach the side bolt.
  • The T16 diagnostic connector is clipped to the trim; unclip it rather than pulling on the wiring.
  • Footwell light version: one extra connector to unplug.
  • Refit the bottom edge into the foot rest spring clip before pressing the top edge home.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
