📋 Procedure

Removing alternator

Obtain radio code on vehicles with coded radio.
With ignition switched off disconnect battery earth strap.
Detach cover from power steering fluid reservoir.
Take connectors in front of ABS unit out of bracket -arrows-.

Unclip the connector bracket at the ABS unit console and lift up to remove.
Swivel the wire retainer on the cover at back of headlight to the side and remove cover.
Unbolt and remove air duct leading to air cleaner (air duct is bolted to lock carrier).

To slacken ribbed belt, turn belt tensioner in direction of arrow.
Remove ribbed belt from alternator pulley.
Slacken top and bottom bolts on alternator.
Unbolt wiring at rear of alternator and move wiring clear.
Lift the alternator out to the left.
To help install alternator, knock back bush on bottom securing bolt slightly.

Removing bracket

Remove viscous fan (with belt pulley) from bearing =>Fig.
13-12
, and move it forward into fan cowl.
Detach tensioning element for ribbed belt from bracket.
Remove noise insulation -arrows-.

Detach pulley from power steering pump.
Unbolt vane pump for power steering, move clear to one side and tie in place. Do not open hydraulic connections.
Remove support for intake manifold.
Unscrew the two bolts securing torque reaction support to bracket.

Unbolt bracket for alternator, vane pump and viscous fan -bolts 1 ... 6-.
Take out bracket from below.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:

Locate bracket for alternator, vane pump and viscous fan on cylinder block and tighten bolts in diagonal sequence:

1, 2 - M 10 x 85 bolts
3 ... 6 - M 10 x 45 bolts

Install viscous fan => Fig.
13-12
.
Install ribbed belt =>Page
13-16
.
After connecting battery, enter anti-theft code for radio

=> Radio operating instructions

Close windows fully using electric window switches.
Then operate all electric window switches again for at least one second in the "close" direction to activate the automatic one-touch function.
Set clock to correct time.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
