Removing and installing air recirculation flap control motor V113 on vehicles with no air flow flap control motor V71 — AUDI
Removing and installing air recirculation flap control motor V113 on vehicles with no air flow flap control motor V71 on Audi: 16 steps.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi A3 (8P, 2003–2012)
- Special tools named: VAS 5051
Don't miss
- If necessary, mark the connector (C) (to prevent interchange if several connectors are simultaneously unplugged) and unplug.
- In the event of problems with moisture in the passenger compartment, additionally check the air recirculation flap (must close completely).
📋 Procedure
- ⚠ Problems with air conditioner (heater) operation following installation of incorrect component versionsThe different control motor versions can only be distinguished from the outside based on their part numbersWhere possible, only remove a control motor once the new component is available for installation.Prior to installation, check carefully to ensure that the correct control motor is being installed. If possible, only dispose of the removed components once correct operation of the newly installed components has been checked. — Remove the glove compartment General body repairs, interior68.
- Screw out the bolts (B).
- Release the control motor (A) from the mount (D).
- Release the lug (E) of the control motor from the mount of the cam plate (F).
- If necessary, mark the connector (C) (to prevent interchange if several connectors are simultaneously unplugged) and unplug.
- Detach the control motor (A).
- Check actuation and operation of the air recirculation flap (C) and the air flow flap (fresh-air flap) (B) by turning the cam plate (A). When doing so, pay attention to correct positioning of the lugs attached to the levers in the grooves of the cam plate (A).
- Position the cam plate (A) such that the connecting element of the control motor can be inserted. [Note: On vehicles with no air flow flap control motor V71, the air recirculation flap and the air flow flap (fresh air flap) are moved by the air recirculation flap control motor V113 by way of a cam plate. To keep the time required to attain air recirculation mode as short as possible, the cam plate is designed such that the air recirculation flap is open and the air flow flap is closed at the two end stops of the control motor. In fresh air mode (air recirculation flap closed and air flow flap open), the air recirculation flap control motor V113 is set to roughly mid-position .]
- Lever out the connecting element (here the lug (E)) from the control motor being replaced (or select from the set of connecting elements) and install it in the new control motor being installed .
- Plug in the connector (C) at the control motor (A).
- Lay the wiring harness to the connector (C) such that it cannot come into contact with moving components (e.g. with the levers at the intake housing).
- Insert the lug (E) of the control motor in the mount of the cam plate (F). [Note: The lug of the shaft of the control motor (E) is only to be fitted in the position in which it can be inserted in the mount of the cam plate (F) without exerting force. If pre-tension is required to insert the lug (E), check the shaft of the motor, as this may be turned through 270° and set to the other stop.If the lug of the shaft of the control motor (E) is not in the position in which it can be inserted, connect the control motor to the vehicle wiring harness. Switch on the ignition and select a setting on the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit J255 in which the control motor is moved to the centre position (e.g. fresh-air mode). Wait until the control motor reaches the required position and then switch off the ignition. If the lug of the shaft of the control motor (E) is not in the position in which it can be inserted, use an adapter lead for example (or an auxiliary lead from the adapter setV.A.G 1594/C) to connect contacts "“5”" and "“6”" of the control motor removed by way of a 5 A fuse to a 12 V battery. Turn the control motor until the shaft is in a position in which no pre-tension is required for attachment (roughly centre position). The direction of rotation of the control motor can be reversed by interchanging positive and negative.]
- Insert the control motor (A) in the mount (D).
- Screw in the bolts (B).
- Interrogate the event recorder of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit J255 and erase any faults displayed "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
- Perform basic setting and final control diagnosis for the air conditioner and interrogate the event recorder again "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051. [Note: In the event of problems with moisture in the passenger compartment, additionally check the air recirculation flap (must close completely).]

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
