📋 Procedure
- ⚠ Problems occur with the operation of the air conditioner (heater) if incorrect component versions have been installed. The different control motor versions can only be distinguished from the outside by their part numbers. If possible, only remove a control motor if the new component is available for installation. Before installing a control motor, check carefully to ensure that the correct version is being installed. If possible, only dispose of the removed components once you have checked that the newly installed components function correctly. — Remove glove box General body repairs, interior68Shelves / trim panels; Removing and installing glove box.
- If applicable, switch on the ignition and, on the air conditioner (heater) operating unit, Climatronic control unit J255, select "“Defrost”" mode (press the defrost button, the lamp in the defrost button lights). [Note: In "“Defrost”" mode, the control motor is always set to the "“fresh air mode”" position.]
- Wait for the control motor to reach its "“fresh air mode”" end position (approx. 20 sec.).
- Switch off ignition.
- Release catches (D) and (E) for bracket (A) at intake duct and detach bracket (A).
- Remove the air recirculation flap control motor V113.
- Mark the connector to the air recirculation flap control motor V113 (to prevent interchange with the connector to the air flow flap control motor V71).
- Detach air flow flap control motor V71(A) from intake duct.
- Mark and unplug the connector to the air flow flap control motor V71. [Note: The connection between the gear wheels of the air flow flap control motor V71 and the air flow flap is designed such that the air flow flap control motor V71 can only be readily detached in the "“fresh air mode”" position. If the control motor is in a different position and can no longer be moved, it is not possible to simply detach the control motor, but rather it must first be forced out of the mounting points (B). Take care not to damage the gear wheel (C) when doing so.] [Note: Up to 10.2013, the replacement control motor was supplied with the mounted gear wheel (A) in the "“fresh air mode”" position. From 10.2013 onwards, a control motor without the gear wheel (A) fitted is supplied (gradual introduction). The gear wheel and control motor must then be assembled correctly .The gear wheel (A) can only be fitted onto the gear wheel of the air flow flap when it makes contact with stop (B). Control motors which have been removed in a different position or activated following removal cannot be installed. If the gear wheel (A) of the control motor is not on stop (B) ("“fresh air mode”"), move it to the position required for installation. The gear wheels and connecting elements are only colour-coded on vehicles manufactured up to approx. 10.2013. On vehicles built after 10.2013, these components can no longer be distinguished by their colour .]
- Prise connecting element (in this case: gear wheel (A)) out of the control motor that is being renewed (or select connecting element from set of connecting elements) and install it in the new control motor that is being installed .
- If the gear wheel (A) of the control motor is not on stop (B) ("“fresh air mode”"), use e.g. an adapter cable or test lead from the auxiliary measuring setV.A.G 1594 C to connect contacts 5 and 6 of the control motor via a 5 A fuse to a 12 V battery.
- The control motor will move in one direction as far as the stop. Swapping the positive and negative contacts reverses the direction.
- Actuate the control motor until the gear wheel (A) is on the "“fresh air mode”" stop (B).
- Before fitting control motor, check mounting of air flow flap in intake duct and of gear wheel (C) (air flow flap open, fresh air mode).
- Connect the air flow flap control motor V71 to the vehicle wiring harness (pay attention to correct pin assignment).
- Open the air recirculation flap (E).
- Reach into the intake opening for air recirculation mode and move the air flow flap (A) to the "“fresh air mode”" position (intake opening for air recirculation mode closed).
- Insert the air flow flap control motor V71(B) in the direction opposite to the arrow in the mounts (C) and position it on the gear wheel (D).
- To enable the gear wheel at the control motor (A) to be attached to the gear wheel of the air flow flap, the short tooth (C) of the gear wheel at the control motor must coincide with the short tooth gap (D) of the gear wheel at the shaft of the air flow flap (B).
- Install the air recirculation flap control motor V113.
- Route wiring harness so that it cannot come into contact with moving components (e.g. control motor lever).
- Install bracket (A), taking particular care to ensure that guide of bracket (B) is properly inserted in mounting of intake duct (C) and that bracket is correctly engaged in both catches (D) and (E).
- Check both control motors held in position by bracket (A). Eliminate any clearance if necessary by attaching a piece of foam to inside of attachment points (F) of bracket (A) . [Note: The positions of the air flow flap control motor V71 and the air recirculation flap control motor V113 (and the corresponding flaps) can no longer be seen with the glove box in position. It is therefore advisable to check the operation before installing the glove box.If the two gear wheels (at the air flow flap control motor V71 and the air flow flap) have been assembled in the wrong position, the air flow flap will not reach its two end positions (may be detected as a fault via the "“Basic setting”" function) or the control motor will not run smoothly.]
- Switch on ignition.
- Interrogate the fault memory of the air conditioner (heater) and erase any faults displayed "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
- After installing the control motors, perform air conditioner (heater) basic setting and then interrogate the air conditioner fault memory again "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
- Actuate the air flow flap control motor V71 and the air recirculation flap control motor V113 as follows by way of the air conditioner (heater) operating unit, Climatronic control unit J255 until the gear wheel is on the "“air recirculation mode”" stop (this illustration shows the air flow flap (A) on the "“fresh air mode”" stop) and then check the position of the air flow flap (must be closed).
- First select the "“air recirculation mode”" function on the air conditioner (heater) operating unit, Climatronic control unit J255.
- Select "“Defrost”" mode on the air conditioner (heater) operating unit, Climatronic control unit J255 (press the Defrost button, the lamp in the Defrost button lights, in this mode the control motors are always set to the "“fresh air mode”" position).
- On switching from fresh air mode to air recirculation mode, the air recirculation flap (E) is opened first and the fresh air intake duct then closed by way of the air flow/fresh air flap (A).
- On switching from air recirculation mode to fresh air mode, the fresh air intake duct is opened first by way of the air flow/fresh air flap (A) and the air recirculation flap (E) then closed.
- In partial air recirculation mode (currently only available for vehicles with air conditioner), the air recirculation flap (E) is opened and the air flow/fresh air flap (A) is moved to mid-position by the air conditioner operating unit, Climatronic control unit J255 (fresh air and air recirculation intake ducts are simultaneously opened slightly). This ensures improved cooling in certain temperature ranges and at the same time the intake of a certain proportion of fresh air.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
