Removing and installing 9-position relay and fuse carrier - R8 Coupé — AUDI

Removing and installing 9-position relay and fuse carrier - R8 Coupé on Audi: 10 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

On the Audi R8 Coupé (42, 2007–2015) the 9-position relay and fuse carrier sits behind the rear shelf, so access is from inside the cabin. With the ignition off, the battery earth cable is disconnected first, then the rear shelf comes out and the carrier's bolts are removed so it can be detached. Relays and control units are pulled from their positions, the socket and auxiliary fuse holder are unclipped by releasing two sets of catches, and the rear right relay carrier is detached. Refitting is the reverse, with the rear shelf going back in and the battery reconnected, followed by the steps required after reconnection. Noting which relay and control unit came from which slot, and releasing catches rather than forcing them, keeps the job clean.

10 steps

🧭 Before you start

Disconnect the battery earth with the ignition off and remove the rear shelf. Unbolt and detach the relay carrier, pull out the relays and control units, then release the catches to unclip the socket and auxiliary fuse holder. Refit in reverse order, reinstall the rear shelf and reconnect the battery, completing the required post-connection steps.

Fits: platform code 42

Don't miss

  • Switch the ignition off before disconnecting the battery earth cable.
  • Note the position of each relay and control unit before pulling them from the carrier.
  • Release all catches (A and B) to free the socket and fuse holder; do not lever them.
  • After reconnecting the battery, carry out the required follow-up steps.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
