Removing and installing 4-position relay and fuse carrier with screw connection — AUDI
Removing and installing 4-position relay and fuse carrier with screw connection on Audi: 12 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
The 4-position relay and fuse carrier with screw connection sits under the driver's side dash panel cover on the platform codes listed below (8R and 83). With the battery earth off, the dash cover comes out, the 3-position carrier ahead of it is unclipped, and the two heavy feed wires on the 4-position carrier are marked before anything is undone. One wire comes off the front, then the carrier is released from its spring and swung out of its mounting to reach the second wire at the back. After that the fuse holder unclips, relays and control units pull out, and the relay carrier presses rearwards out of its holder. Marking those two feed cables is the one step you cannot skip.
🧭 Before you start
Disconnect battery earth with ignition off and remove the driver's side dash panel cover. Detach the 3-position carrier, mark wires 1 and 2, undo the first, swing the 4-position carrier out and disconnect the second at the back. Unclip the fuse holder, pull the relays and control units and release the relay carrier from its holder. Install in reverse and reconnect the battery, following the extra steps on high-voltage vehicles.
Fits: Audi Q5 (8R, 2008–2017); platform code 83
Don't miss
- Mark both feed wires before removal so they go back on the right studs.
- Disconnect battery earth with the ignition off before touching the screw connections.
- Contact assignment for the carrier is in the current flow diagram; check it before refitting relays.
- Vehicles with a high-voltage system need their own battery reconnection steps.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
