Installing engine - all engine codes except CUKB, CXUA: Audi A3 (CJZA, CMBA, CPTA, CSSA, …)
Step-by-step installing engine - all engine codes except CUKB, CXUA for the Audi A3: 40 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
This covers putting the engine back into an Audi A3 (8V, 2012–2020) for every listed code apart from CUKB and CXUA. Engine and gearbox go in together: intermediate plate and dowel sleeves first, clutch checked and centred, gearbox bolted to the engine, then the assembly lifted on engine support T10497 and guided into the body. After that comes the long build-back of starter, coolant pump V51, air ducting, clutch slave cylinder, selector cables, catalytic converter, drive shafts, suspension, ancillaries, wiring and control units. What makes or breaks it is leaving the engine and gearbox mounting bolts hand-tight until the mountings have been adjusted, and resetting the misfire adaptions once the new engine is running.
🧭 Before you start
Prepare the engine with intermediate plate, dowel sleeves, a centred clutch plate and lightly greased input shaft splines, then join the gearbox and fit its support. Lower the assembly in on the engine support, start the mounting bolts by hand only, and refit everything removed: starter, coolant pump, air pipes, slave cylinder, cables, catalyst, drive shafts, wishbones, alternator, compressor, belt, electrics, throttle valve module and engine control unit. Adjust the assembly mountings, then check oil, fill with fresh coolant and reset misfire adaptions with the diagnostic tester.
Fits: Audi A3 (8V, 2012–2020); platform code 85
- Opens: coolant
- Renewed: clutch release bearing
Don't miss
- Fit the dowel sleeves for engine-to-gearbox centring if they are missing from the cylinder block.
- Engine and gearbox mounting bolts go in hand-tight only; final torque comes after the mountings are adjusted.
- Grease the input shaft splines only lightly and make sure the clutch plate is properly centred.
- Do not reuse the old coolant when filling the system.
- Never boost-start with battery charging equipment; excessive voltage can destroy control units.
- After an engine change, reset the misfire adaptions in guided functions.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
