  1. Unplug electrical connector (1).
  2. Remove bolt (2).
  3. Remove air pipe (arrows).
  4. ⚠ The fuel system is pressurised. Before opening the system place a clean cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection. In extreme cases the fuel lines and the fuel can reach a temperature of 100 °C on vehicles with unit injector engine. Allow the fuel to cool down before disconnecting the lines - danger of scalding. Wear protective gloves. Wear safety goggles. — Remove screw plug (arrow). [Note: Illustration shows tandem pump with engine removed from vehicle.]
  5. Connect tandem pump tester VAS 5187 as shown in the illustration.
  6. Start engine.
  7. Increase engine speed to 4000 rpm.
  8. Read the pressure on the gauge:
  9. Clamp off return hose between fuel filter and tandem pump using hose clamp.
  10. Increase engine speed to 4000 rpm.
  11. Read the pressure on the gauge:
  12. Renew O-rings at unit injectors.
  13. Renew tandem pump (see the separate procedure). [Note: After removing pressure gauge, tighten plug to 25 Nm. Always renew seal.]

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
