  1. Fit end sealV.A.G 1687/6 and adapterV.A.G 1687/13-2 on turbocharger.
  2. Loosen clamp (front) (arrows) and push towards rear.
  3. ⚠ Risk of damage to flexible joints in front silencer.Do NOT bend the flexible joints in the front silencer more than 10°. — Lower front silencer (2) slightly and secure it with a cable tie (1), as shown.
  4. Seal off front silencer with adapterV.A.G 1687/3 and adapterV.A.G 1687/15.
  5. Depending on hose diameter, insert adapter1687/10, 1687/11 or 1687/12 into air hose (1) and secure with hose clip.
  6. Connect charge air system testerV.A.G 1687 as shown on illustration.
  7. Unscrew pressure control valve (2) completely and close valves (3) and (4). [Note: Make sure knob is pulled out before turning pressure control valve (2).]
  8. Using a commercially available connection piece, connect charge air system testerV.A.G 1687 to compressed air (1). [Note: If there is water in sight glass, remove drain plug (6) and drain water.]
  9. Open valve (3).
  10. ⚠ Risk of damage if pressure is set too high. The pressure must not exceed 0.5 bar. — Adjust pressure to 0.5 bar via pressure control valve (2).
  11. Open valve (4) and wait until test system is pressurised. If necessary, adjust pressure to 0.5 bar again.
  12. Check charge air system for audible leaks or leaks that can be felt with the hand; apply commercially available leak detecting spray or use ultrasonic testerV.A.G 1842. [Note: A small amount of air escapes through the valves and enters the engine. Therefore it is not possible to perform a pressure retention test.Operation of ultrasonic testerV.A.G 1842Operating instructions.Release pressure in test circuit by detaching coupling from adapter before removing adapter.Secure all hose connections with correct type of hose clips (as original equipment) Electronic parts catalogue.]

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
